Why a Question Beats a Compliment
The opener everyone tries — a comment on how the other person looks — has nowhere to go. It gets a “thanks”, and then you are both back at zero. The Openers That Get You Skipped
Three patterns end random chats before they begin. Appearance comments, covered above, are merely weak. Explicit messages are worse: they end most conversations instantly and are the most reliable way to be reported. And the data-collection opener — age, city, job, relationship status in quick succession — reads as screening, and asks a stranger for exactly the information they should keep back.
